De Efteling blijft voor mij een van de mooiste plekken die er zijn. Een wereld waar jong én oud zich kan onderdompelen in verhalen, avontuur en verwondering. Je voelt het al zodra je de poort binnenstapt – hier mag je dromen.
Wat voor mij extra bijzonder is, is dat ik de bouw van het Efteling Grand Hotel van begin tot eind heb mogen volgen. Van de eerste ontwerptekeningen, tot de fundering die werd gestort, tot de torens die langzaam zichtbaar werden. En kijk nu: een prachtig hotel dat naadloos deel uitmaakt van de Wereld van de Efteling.
Het voelt als een betoverende toevoeging – vooral wanneer je via de arcade-ingang richting Symbolica loopt. Alsof je door een levend sprookje wandelt, waar fantasie en werkelijkheid elkaar ontmoeten.
Ik ben trots dat dit bijzondere hoofdstuk is toegevoegd aan het verhaal van de Efteling, en elke keer dat ik er loop voelt het opnieuw als magie.
Tijdens de Avond van de Vijf Zintuigen heb ik opnieuw ervaren hoe bijzonder de Efteling is. Het was een avond vol verwondering, fijne ontmoetingen en verrassende momenten.
Een van de hoogtepunten vond plaats in het Fata Morgana-paleis, waar Het Atelier van de Efteling te bewonderen was. De tentoonstelling gaf een prachtig inkijkje in creaties zoals Aquanura, De Prinses op de Erwt en natuurlijk het indrukwekkende Efteling Grand Hotel – inmiddels een stralende blikvanger in het park.
Wat de avond extra speciaal maakte, was de ontmoeting met ontwerper Sander de Bruijn en Grand Hotel-manager Alex van Gastel. Sander begroette me enthousiast en het werd een spontaan, gezellig gesprek mét fotomoment. Later in de tentoonstelling leerde ik Alex kennen, die met veel plezier vragen beantwoorde en met abonnementhouders in gesprek ging. Ook met hem had ik een zeer leuk en interessant gesprek, opnieuw met een foto als herinnering.
Tijdens dat gesprek vroeg ik voorzichtig of een rondleiding door het Efteling Grand Hotel misschien eens mogelijk zou zijn. Tot mijn vreugde mocht ik via een visitekaartje contact opnemen. Zodra het nieuwe jaar begon, heb ik een e-mail gestuurd en kreeg ik direct een hartelijke reactie terug: ze wilden heel graag samen een datum afstemmen.
Dolblij heb ik het moment ingepland – en daarna Dennis verrast, want hij wist nog helemaal van niets.

Een wereld vol verwondering, ook achter de deuren van het Efteling Grand Hotel
“Op zaterdag 10 januari 2026 mochten wij met veel plezier John Lemmen en Dennis Sorgdrager verwelkomen in het Efteling Grand Hotel, de vertrouwde gezichten van de Wereld Vol Wonderen Efteling Fanclub. Extra bijzonder was dat zij langskwamen kort na hun prachtige mijlpaal van 40.000 volgers op Facebook. John en Dennis kregen een bijzonder kijkje in de nieuwste en betoverende plek van de Efteling.
Onder het genot van een kopje koffie begon een reis door het verhaal van het Efteling Grand Hotel. Een verhaal waarin gastvrijheid al start vóór de aankomst. Wij leren de gast via de voorpret al kennen voordat zij arriveren bij het hotel. We willen weten wie ze zijn, wat hen blij maakt en wat hen bijzonder maakt, zodat we ze met open armen kunnen ontvangen, alsof ze thuiskomen in een echt sprookje.
Na een mooi gesprek met John en Dennis begon dan toch echt de rondleiding. Na de wandeling door de lobby, hotel boutique Sens en souvenirwinkel Arcadeau hebben we ook een kamer bezichtigd. Na het bezoek van de restaurants en een bezoekje aan de bovenste verdieping was het een bijzondere rondleiding en hadden John en Dennis goede vragen en heb ik geleerd dat deze heren alles weten over de Efteling. Ze hebben passie en liefde voor de Efteling en het was bijzonder om ze te mogen rondleiden.
Ik hoop dat ik ze heb kunnen laten merken dat ze altijd welkom zijn in het Efteling Grand Hotel. Het Efteling Grand Hotel is meer dan een plek om te slapen, het is een plek waar verhalen beginnen, waar aandacht magie wordt en waar elke gast onderdeel wordt van de Wereld vol Wonderen.

Het Efteling Grand Hotel is écht een prachtige aanwinst voor het attractiepark. Vooral wanneer je er blijft overnachten, merk je hoe bijzonder het is. Vanuit de kamers heb je indrukwekkende uitzichten over het park – zichtlijnen die overdag al magisch zijn, maar ’s avonds helemaal tot leven komen.
Daarnaast kun je gebruikmaken van Bar & Restaurant Mystique, waar je in een stijlvolle en sfeervolle setting kunt genieten van een fantastisch uitzicht over Fata Morgana en Aquanura. Het is een unieke plek om de dag af te sluiten, met het park als levend decor voor je neus.

Efteling remains, for me, one of the most beautiful places in the world. A realm where both young and old can immerse themselves in stories, adventure, and wonder. You feel it the moment you step through the gates — this is a place where you’re allowed to dream.
What makes it even more special to me is that I had the chance to follow the construction of the Efteling Grand Hotel from beginning to end. From the very first design sketches, to the foundation being laid, to the towers slowly rising into view. And now, look at it — a magnificent hotel that seamlessly blends into the World of Efteling.
It feels like an enchanting addition — especially when you walk toward Symbolica through the arcade entrance. As if you are strolling through a living fairytale, where fantasy and reality meet.
I’m proud that this special chapter has been added to the story of Efteling, and every time I walk there, it feels like magic all over again.
During the Evening of the Five Senses, I once again experienced just how special Efteling truly is. It was an evening filled with wonder, warm encounters, and delightful surprises.
One of the highlights took place inside the Fata Morgana palace, where The Atelier of Efteling was on display. The exhibition offered a beautiful glimpse into creations such as Aquanura, The Princess and the Pea, and of course the impressive Efteling Grand Hotel — now a shining landmark within the park.
What made the evening even more special was meeting Efteling designer Sander de Bruijn and Efteling Grand Hotel manager Alex van Gastel. Sander greeted me enthusiastically, and it turned into a spontaneous and friendly conversation — complete with a photo moment. Later in the exhibition, I met Alex, who happily answered questions and spoke with season pass holders. I also had a very enjoyable and interesting conversation with him, again with a photo to remember it by.
During that conversation, I carefully asked whether a guided tour of the Efteling Grand Hotel might be possible someday. To my delight, I was invited to get in touch via a business card. As soon as the new year began, I sent an email and immediately received a warm reply: they would love to coordinate a date together.
Overjoyed, I scheduled the moment — and then surprised Dennis, because he had no idea at all.

“On Saturday, January 10, 2026, we had the great pleasure of welcoming John Lemmen and Dennis Sorgdrager to the Efteling Grand Hotel, the familiar faces behind the Wereld Vol Wonderen Efteling Fanclub. What made the visit even more special was that it took place shortly after their wonderful milestone of reaching 40,000 followers on Facebook. John and Dennis were given a special glimpse into Efteling’s newest and most enchanting location.
Over a cup of coffee, a journey began through the story of the Efteling Grand Hotel — a story in which hospitality starts even before arrival. Through the anticipation beforehand, we already get to know our guests before they arrive at the hotel. We want to know who they are, what makes them happy, and what makes them unique, so we can welcome them with open arms — as if they are coming home to a real fairytale.
After a lovely conversation with John and Dennis, the guided tour truly began. Following a walk through the lobby, hotel boutique Sens, and souvenir shop Arcadeau, we also visited one of the rooms. After exploring the restaurants and a visit to the top floor, it became a very special tour. John and Dennis asked great questions, and I learned that these gentlemen truly know everything about Efteling. Their passion and love for Efteling are unmistakable, and it was a pleasure to show them around.
I hope I was able to make them feel that they are always welcome at the Efteling Grand Hotel. The Efteling Grand Hotel is more than a place to sleep — it is a place where stories begin, where attention becomes magic, and where every guest becomes part of the World of Wonder.

The Efteling Grand Hotel truly is a beautiful addition to the theme park. You especially notice how special it is when you stay overnight. From the rooms, you have impressive views over the park — sightlines that are already magical during the day, but that truly come to life in the evening.
In addition, you can enjoy Bar & Restaurant Mystique, where you can relax in a stylish and atmospheric setting while taking in a fantastic view over Fata Morgana and Aquanura. It’s a unique place to end the day, with the park as a living backdrop right before your eyes.
